Memory Lane

This week at our Bible in 90 Days lunch, we talked about song lyrics taken from Scripture. Whether direct quotes or in concept, we're likely to miss the connection if our Bible reading doesn't include reading longer passages in context. From out of the deep recesses of my mind I recalled a song from a RECORD my dad bought me when I was a kid.

My dad used to sell book through a company called Successful Living (which I believe is now part of Cook Ministries). You may have seen their racks of Christian books in grocery stores. In fact, I realized a few years ago that the trips my dad took my brother and I on to DC and Colorado were the same Christian bookseller conventions I've attended as an adult in the Christian publishing world.

While Dad was learning all the latest and greatest in publishing, I was on the kid's track, entertained by the pre-cursors of Bob and Larry. The names are fuzzy, but I remember the album, "Sir Oliver's Song." An internationally-flavored ode to the 10 Commandments. The song that popped into my head was "Just One God is He," an Egyptian number based on commandment #2.

Thanks to the world wide web and the power of Froogle, I discover that the album is available on CD for $3.25! Oh happy day!

Thanks, Dad...See, I do remember some things :-)

Oh my goodness!! MUSIC MACHINE!! We had two music machine albums, and I distinctly remember sitting on the couch with my mom and reading along with the songs. I remember "The String Song" and a few others. To this day so many times when someone will mention being patient, I will be thinking/singing in my head, "Have patience, have patience, don't be in such a hurry, when you get impatient, you'll only start to worry..." (i think that's how it goes) And the sound effects! I still remember the noises the music machine would make when they'd put an item in. Ahhhhhhhhhhh... :) What a wonderful trip down memory lane.
